  3. Bing ADs Shopping Campaings are now in Beta

Google announced that their Mobile Update went live, as promised, on April 21st. Those of us watching at that time were left ...well disillusioned with the lack of a dramatic or even in some case a noticeable change in mobile traffic.

Google's John Mueller confirmed on Friday, April 24th in a Google Hangout video that the update had begun to be released:

As of May 1st, Google announced that the Mobile update had been completely rolled out to all of its data centers. We know that a lot of industries did not experience the type of fluctuations that were promised. However, there were many that saw a dramatic shift, including many big brands. To read more about that see Graham Charlton's report here.

If this update is news to you then please see our previous coverage to get caught up on the facts and learn what it takes to get the Mobile Friendly tag for your site. Here are a few quick facts to remember about this update: • It only affects search rankings on mobile devices.

  • It will affect search results in all languages globally.
  • It will be applied to individual pages, not entire websites.

2. Bing will also adjust website rankings based on mobile friendliness

Bing Mobile Firiendly results May 2015Bing announced they will be launching their own version of a mobile friendly algorithm in the upcoming months for the Bing mobile search results. This is similar to Google's mobile friendly algorithm, yet Bing won't be giving a date of when this change will take place. The company still claims that website relevancy, no matter what, will always be more important than if a site renders nicely on mobile devices.

  • The Bing mobile friendly algorithm will launch in the upcoming months
  • The algorithm will consider UX (user experience) on mobile devices
  • Bing mobile search results will show a "mobile" label on listings the same way Google does.
  • Bing will provide a new tool to inform business owners if their website is mobile friendly or not, and if not, what to do about it.
  • It seems Bing and Google care about the same UX aspects when it comes to website being mobile friendly.
  • Sites that do not render on mobile devices will suffer (i.e. fully Flash sites).
  • When it comes to your site being mobile, it either IS or it's NOT. There's no in-between.
  • Website are index and checked on real time for whether or not they're mobile friendly.
  • Bing wants users to know it will NOT be a mobilegeddon, as it will be rolled out with a lot of communication and feedback for webmasters.

3. Bing ADs Shopping Campaigns now in Beta.

May 2015 Bing Shopping AdsBing Ads is now testing the marketing waters with new Shopping AD Campaigns, and the program is now live for Beta testing.

A nice feature in these new Bing Ads, will be in the product's specifications from the Dimensions tab. A set of Shopping-specific dimensions will make it easy to view and sort performance by specific categories, product types, brands, item ID numbers and store ID.

Additionally, there will be competitive benchmarks and data reporting specifically targeted to the Shopping Campaigns to help advertisers optimize campaign performance.

As with other AdWords campaigns, advertisers can import Google Shopping Campaigns into Bing Ads. They will also offer API support.

If you want to try their beta platform, you’ll have to contact an account rep at this point.

The program is expected to open up to more advertisers by this summer.

4. Instagram's New Photo Filters, Emoji in Hashtags & Music Channel

Instagram is one of the top and most popular social media platforms today, and thrives in keeping ahead of its competitors.

The growth of Instagram is remarkable, and has already reached more than 300 million users since it launched four years ago. We could say that Instagram has added more meaning to the saying “Images speak louder than words”. The reason behind the successful journey of Instagram is not only because of its simple image sharing user interface, but also because it lets users make those images more appealing through it's photo filters and tools.

3 New Photo Filters

Instagram has now launched 3 new photo filters. The names are respectively followed as “Lark”, “Reyes” and “Juno”. These 3 filters can enhance your images by adjusting the brightness and color.

  • Lark- It desaturates reds while punching up blues and greens to bring your landscapes to life.
  • Reyes- It brings a dusty, vintage look to your moments.
  • Juno - This feature tints cool tones green while making warm tones pop and whites glow vibrant in photos of people.

Emoji Hashtags & @Music Channel

Another interesing update which took place is the introduction of emoji hashtags and their new @music channel.

We use emoji or emoticons (Emotion icons) to communicate emotions and feelings in ways that anyone can understand, regardless of language or background.

With emoji hashtags, Instagram will now let you discover even more content by adding emoji to your own photos and videos, searching them on the Explore page and tapping on them when you see them in captions.

Additionally, the @music channel is all about helping users explore music around the globe. This new channel will show users a different side of the artists they know and love. As instagram continues to offer new features more frequently, marketers will continue to find this social channel more useful in the upcoming days. #StayTuned!
